HRW representatives meet enforced disappearance commission

Representatives of the Human Rights Watch on Wednesday met with the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearance.

A HRW delegation led by Elaine Pearson, Asia Director of the world’s most respected human rights group, met with the commission at its Gulshan office in the capital and discussed issues related to enforced disappearance in Bangladesh.

 

The commission chairman Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury welcomed the delegation and briefed them on the commission activities, said a press release.

The delegation expressed deep concern regarding the reports of human rights violations in Bangladesh and emphasised on importance of ensuring justice for the cases of enforced disappearance, human rights violations and extrajudicial killings, read the release.

The meeting was as part of the HRW delegation’s on going consultation with different stakeholders in Bangladesh from January 26 to 30.

The commission was formed after the fall of 15-year Awami League to inquiry on enforced disappearance and it submitted its first interim report to the interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on December 14, 2024.
